Last week, I was at ELRIGfr meeting in Monaco, as president of RA’pro (Association for the Promotion of Augmented Reality), to chair an augmented reality workshop with famous societies as Molecular Devices, Sopra Steria, agence dad and Microtechnix.  Many other things were of course interesting and, even if I’m not a biologist, I’m happy to share my impressions with you !

First day was dedicated to precision medicine and data management. Yves Colette talked about the importance molecular biology in personalized medicine. The genetic approach is not enough and high throughput ex vivo tests could open new therapeutic strategies. Later, Jean François Deleuze ( Head of Centre National de Recherche en Génomique Humaine at CEA) came to present us the explosion of use of NGS technologies and to give new informations about the French Plan for Genomic Medicine 2025. The first two platforms will be launched soon : SeQOIA (Ile-de-France, led by AP-HP Paris Public Hospitals Network, as well as the Curie and Gustave Roussy Institutes) and AURAGEN (based in Auvergne-Rhône Alpes,  led by the region’s four CHUs, two Regional Comprehensive Cancer Centers (CRLCCs), and the Loire Oncology Institute).

Data management session showed us the complexity of a real integrated IT system for a pharmaceutical or biotech company. Many applicative components are available today but interoperability seems not be be considered seriously by editors … Marie-Pierre Fialon (Evotech) gave us an very interesting view of how Evotech has implemented tools to share data between research teams.

Second day was dedicated to lab automation and, to be honest, it was hard for me to understand all discussions 🙂 But I noticed the feedback of Jonathan Pascau (Galderma) about the use of 1536 plates in cell based assays. The miniaturisation of these kinds of assays is not so simple but, when difficulties are overwhelmed, benefices are really important ! It’s exactly what we are doing now in HCS Pharma 🙂 The presentation of Phillippe Hartz (Roche) was also very interesting because he talked about the implementation of phenotypic screening under BLS-3 conditions !

Augmented Reality workshop ELRIGfr 2017 Monaco

And the last event was the! I was very please to organize such a event with amazing use cases :

  • Yoann Yvon et Antoine Godin from Sopra Steria explained the usefulness of “digital twin” in industries. They showed us how to use it in our field to increase efficiency
  • Olivier Lefevre (agence dad) illustrated the use or augmented reality in “everyday life” of a company, from products conception to virtual showcases on a communication events. He explained his work with Cedric Point from Molecular Devices for the installation of our platform HAPIX.
  • Wouter Christiansens (Microtechnix) presented his “virtual ScanLab II” which help you to test functionalities of this device with a HTC Vive Helmet. You are completely immerged in a virtual laboratory where you can manipulate the ScanLab II. A very useful experience !

See you next year in Strasbourg for another exiting ELRIGfr event !
