Jean-Baptise obtained his Master’s degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Paris-Sorbonne University in 2018 after a six-month internship with us. He focused on the development of a human microbiota model in collaboration with the Pharmacology Lab of University of Rennes 1 (INSERM U1230).
He will keep on working on this subject as a PhD student, and has joined us to develop a new in vitro skin microbiota model for the phenotypic screening of molecules. This model will include skin commensal bacteria such asS.epidermidis and will be used to study the impact of skin microbiota on wound healing, UV radiation, inflammatory response and oxidative stress.
In relation to this topic, a recent short paper (Stacy et Belkaid 2019. Science 363, 227-228) has shown that skin microbiota can promote skin repair, immunity and antimicrobial defense. Furthermore, this article contains a summary of the multifaceted roles of S. epidermidis in skin physiology.
