On November 7th, the 10th revision of the SCCS’s Notes of Guidance has been released. If you work in cosmetology, you know the importance of this document used to “provide guidance to public authorities and to the cosmetic industry in order to improve harmonised compliance with the current cosmetic EU legislation“.  Since the previous release (2015) we notice that alternative and non-animal methods are again emphasized. For us, it’s the right way to modernized assays and to be close to consumers interests. It’s why we work hard to ever improve our assays with 3D biologicals models (in toxicology and dermocosmetology with BIOMIMESYS® hydroscaffold).

What for us it’s also noticeable in this guidance :

  • An update on animal free toxicological studies dedicated to cosmetics ingredients.
  • New tools for the evaluation of genotoxicity.
  • An introduction of the notion of systemic departure point.
