Lipid peroxidation is the oxidative degradation process of lipids, including membrane lipids. This process is initiate by free radical species transfering electrons from the lipids chain, and creating cell damages by producing lipid radical. Cell membrane containing lipid radical suffers from changes in their structure and also production of toxic metabolites such as malondialdehyde, leading to the formation of genotoxic DNA adducts.

Modification of membrane lipids thought lipid peroxidation is playing an important role in initiation and mediation of aging processes.

Through the use of a specific fluorescent probe, lipid peroxidation can be assessed by fluorescence cell imaging.

Lipid peroxidation could be studied on primary keratinocytes and fibroblasts, and on HacaT cell line. Anti-peroxidation effect of your compounds could also be studied with peroxidation inducer Cumene.
